My "Peaceful" weekend

Last Friday, I went home experiencing just a little rain shower. The wind was cold and it was really a good time to sleep. I actually had a peaceful sleep that night.

The following day, I wasn't really planning on going out since I intend to tidy up the house a bit and do my chores but I had overslept. Not because I didn't sleep well, but because it was raining and I felt so lazy. So, I curled up in bed, embraced my pillow and covered myself with a heavy blanket. I slept till about 10 o'clock in the morning and told myself, I'll just do my chores tomorrow when the rain stops.

Sunday came... I was told via text by someone overseas that he watched TFC and heard that there was a storm in the Philippines. I even got a text from a friend at 5:30 in the morning that the power went out in their place already and was asking me if we still have it in my place. Oh, my God! I never thought the rain would end up to be a storm and to top it up, the power went down. My cell phone is running out of battery and I'll be out of touch in a few hours.

But well... I cannot do anything about it anymore. So I just stayed in bed with my book and started reading and when I got hungry, I got up and cooked a sumptuous breakfast for myself. I remember having pancit canton, siomai, bread and coffee. I really treated myself to such a big breakfast since I have nothing else to do and I think the weather made me put up an appetite.

After breakfast, I went back to bed with my book in tow. The wind was really blowing so hard and I got a little frigtened and there was a lot of rain really. I can't even look out from my window because I'll surely get wet with all that rain and wind.

The night came, I had dinner with candle light. It should have been romantic if I were not alone but I'm not that lucky.

I got bored sometime during the day since there really wasn't anything much to do but I survived, nothing bad happened except for the car cover being torn almost in half by the gusty wind.

The power went back the following day (Monday) and so I ended up having a very long weekend. I wasn't able to go to work since my uniforms are still in the laundry hamper, thanks to my being lazy. But then everything went well... it was still a very peaceful weekend for me.

Wordless Wednesday: Down the tree trunk...

Everyone... meet my Dad!

My childhood was simple... I grew up in a small, wooden house with a big lawn and a lot of trees. Although the place was not ours, we stayed there for a very long time. I grew up with loving parents and three sisters. I'm the youngest and according to many... the most loved and pampered.

My father was a carpenter, a very simple man who was not given the chance of an education since he belongs to a big, poor family. But I can still recall that despite not having studied, my father can work out my math assignments easily. I just have to read it to him and he can easily solve it for me. I believe that if he was only given a chance, he could have been a very successful man.

My father did not pamper us with lavish things since he cannot afford it but I can still remember how happy I am whenever I woke up and find a box of curly tops chocolates under my pillow or whenever he comes home with a paper bag full of sweet lanzones. There was even one time when he came home with an old fire truck that was about to be thrown by his client but he gladly saved it and brought it home for me. It was a little boy's toy but I was very happy to have it. It's red and it's got a ladder that can be pulled out and extended and I really had a great time playing with it.

May father, despite his very small salary, was able to bring us all to school. He always tells us that we should never give up studying even if we don't have money in our pockets, even if we have old, torn shoes and even if the uniforms we wear are only given by a rich neighbor. He taught us the importance of having an education and striving to be successful.

He never gave up on us... especially me. I have grown to be what I am today because of him. And I know that wherever he is right now, he is happy to see what kind of person I've become.

Tatay, mahal na mahal kita! Happy father's day!

Breast Cancer Awareness: The Tag for a Cause

Having cancer in the family has made me not only conscious of this disease but afraid as well, although there are many ways to easily detect breast cancer now, it is still good to be careful and be aware. I thank, Marikenya for this tag for a cause.

June is the Breast Cancer Awareness month and this blog tag’s objective is to spread the information on this killer disease.

Facts you need to know about Breast Cancer:

• The first sign of breast cancer usually shows up on a woman’s mammogram before it can be felt or any other symptoms are present.

• Risks for breast cancer include a family history, atypical hyperplasia, delaying pregnancy until after age 30 or never becoming pregnant, early menstruation (before age 12), late menopause (after age 55), current use or use in the last ten years of oral contraceptives, and daily consumption of alcohol.

• Early detection of breast cancer, through monthly breast self-exam and particularly yearly mammography after age 40, offers the best chance for survival.

• Ninety-six percent of women who find and treat breast cancer early will be cancer-free after five years.

• Over eighty percent of breast lumps are not cancerous, but benign such as fibrocystic breast disease.

• You are never too young to develop breast cancer! Breast Self-Exam should begin by the age of twenty.

(Resources: American Cancer Society National Cancer Institute Komen Foundation)

You can help save lives of many women by spreading the word about The Breast Cancer Site and clicking on the pink button many times as you can. If The Breast Cancer Site receives 8 million clicks on the pink button in June, their premier sponsor -Bare Necessities- will donate $10,000 for more free mammograms. CLICK the pink button today!

The benefits of being a PPP postie!

I had been blogging for more than two months now through the prodding of my friend. Just recently, she also encouraged me to join PayPerPost, one the widely known paid posting sites.

I immediately signed up and waited for the approval of my blog. The day after I signed up, I immediately got a reply from them and told me that my blog lack some requirements that I first need to fix before I can re-submit it for approval. And when updated my blog to meet the requirements, the approval came on the same day that I re-submitted my blog. The response was so immediate and I really felt happy about it.

A lot of opportunities are open for me to write about things that I love, things I enjoy and topics I'm most familiar with and I'm so eager to start posting it in my blog. However, as a postie I also have a responsibility to adhere to the rules provided by PPP such as the word of mouth ethics.

So, far everything had been enjoyable for me and I'm glad that the other members are very friendly and very helpful and take time to guide a newbie like me.

This would really be a great time to enjoy posting and getting financial benefits as well. What I’m planning to do is to raise enough funds to open another blog that would be in my own domain.

WW: The Calmness of the Sea

My last summer getaway?

This summer was so much fun for me. I had been into beautiful places such as Bacolod, Zambales, Taytay and now... Pangasinan.

I was invited to join my former office's summer outing in Puerto del Sol, Bolinao, Pangasinan. I gladly joined because I know that it would be so much fun and I want to be with my friends again. We were supposed to be leaving Marikina as early as 4:30am but we overslept. So, the others left us and agreed to meet us in Luisita, Tarlac. We left Marikina at around 6:00 am and we were able to get to the meeting place as soon as we can.

We arrived in Bolinao at 11:30 am, it was quite a long drive. It was only then that I found out that Bolinao is the last town in Pangasinan. We were screaming with glee when we reach the resort. Finally, after long hours of driving we can see the beautiful landscape of Puerto del Sol, the beautiful cottages, the white sand, the calm and peaceful sea, the swimming pool and the jacuzi.

We were welcomed with drinks and a necklace made of small sea shells. We had an outdoor lunch after a few minutes and since we're supposed to check in at 2PM, the rooms were not yet ready by the time we finished our lunch. But it was okay because we were allowed to stay in the huts were we can lie down and get some fresh air. The huts are beautiful, with curtains all around. We also took our time taking pictures all around the resort. It was a sunny day but we don't really mind for as long as we get to have our pictures taken.

After a little more than an hour of waiting, we got into our room. It was airconditioned, with two beds, a balcony and a bathroom. It was really cute, I really like going out on the balcony where you can see the pool, the sea and the beautiful landscape.

We rested for a few hours, watched cable TV, take a few winks and then we went down at around 6PM and played billiards. I really don't know how to but I enjoyed it. Dinner was served after an hour. After dinner, we went directly to the pool (we've already worn our swimsuits when we left the room). The water was unexpectedly warm and I enjoyed it very much. We even tried the jacuzi, but we didn't enjoy it that much. But we enjoyed taking pictures while we're on it.

We went back to our rooms when we got tired of playing around in the pool. We were supposed to drink but I guess we didn't know that we were still tired from the trip. I actually dozed off first and when I woke up at 5AM, it was sunrise.

We went down to try the sea this time. The water was shallow and just knee deep so we just walked but we dare not reach the breakwater since they said that beyond the breakwater the water would be 40ft. deep. I don't want to find out and I think nobody did.

We posed for some pictures again (I think that's what we did most of the time) and then had breakfast and got dressed to leave. We bought a few things in the souvenir shop before we finally left the beautiful Puerto del Sol (Port of the Sun).

It was a wonderful, fun-filled summer getaway. Will this be my last for this year? I don't really know.
